Joash in you (2 Kings 12)

Jehoash* was a man of God,
He started well, he did a lot -
Restored the house of the Lord!
Destroyed the idols?! - Well... he did not,

Though did his best. The priest** did good:
He taught the king, provided food -
The living word of a Higher King.
But Joash tripped on a little thing!

The horn of pagan armies blew ->
The king's faith rapidly withdrew.
On money Joash set his hope.
His life went quickly down the slope.

Why did you blow all things up?
You started well. Why did you stop?
How could you trust the power of gold
More than the One who gave you all?

Our doom begins where doubt dwells.
The living water's in God's wells.
From Him salvation truly comes,
Don't let death play victorious drums.

The Joash lives in me and you.
It is your task, don't let him through.
Don't let the doubt or unbelief
Put poison in your life, and grief.

The crafty one tries to entice.
Don't trust the devil's little lies.
Resist him well. And trust the One
Without whom your hope is gone.
